A collection of 10 incredible homemade bone broth recipes!
Bone broth is incredibly healthy, easy and inexpensive to make at home. Bone broth is made by boiling healthy animal bones with vegetables, herbs and spices. Bone broth is a powerful healthy tonic that our grandmother’s made to keep the family well. This round up post is from a variety of homesteaders so everyone will find homemade bone broth recipes they love.
Broth is an excellent source of minerals known to boost the immune system. Its high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and collagen. Broth can be made from beef, bison, poultry, lamb, or fish. When selecting bones, look for grassfed beef, pastured poultry or wild caught fish. Since you’ll be extracting the nutrients from these bones, you’ll want to make sure the animals were as healthy as possible. We raise and process our own chickens so we save the carcasses from several birds, freeze them and make broth as needed.
Ingredients:
2 lb bones
1 gal water
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 sliced onion
2 carrots
2 garlic cloves
1 tbsp thyme
1 tbsp parsley
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
Directions: Place bones, water and acv in a large stock pot. Let them sit in cool water for 30 minutes. The acid from the vinegar helps pull the nutrients from the bones. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil then simmer for 4-6 hours. The first few hours, remove the impurities that float to the surface. When finished, strain the bones and ingredients from the broth. When cool, store in a gallon size glass jar and refrigerate for up to 5 days or freeze for later use.
Bone broth can be used in soups or stews. It’s great to have on hand to keep the family healthy. In this picture, I used it to make a healthy bowl of chicken noodle soup by adding cooked chicken, vegetables and noodles.
