DIY Air Freshener Sprays are Better Than Store Bought:
Americans spend $1.72 billion on air fresheners. These product are not regulated enough. They do not have to meet any standards and they are not tested for harmful chemicals.
In fact, these companies get away with marketing products as “natural” when they aren’t.
This is a widespread problem and no one is doing anything about it. Why? You might ask? I do too!
NRDC tested 14 different brands of common household air fresheners and found that 12 contained the hormone-disrupting chemicals known as phthalates.
On the flip side of that, you can easily make your own DIY Air Freshener in minutes that will not only smell good, purify your air, boost your mood but can give you other health benefits such as ease congestion, build immune, improve focus and much more.
Supplies for Making Homemade Air Fresheners
Water – Filtered or distilled.
Alcohol – I use a bit of vodka, rubbing alcohol or witch hazel to my sprays because they help the essential oils and water to mix more thoroughly. It also helps the homemade air freshener dry faster. You could omit it if you like, but I really think it results in a better end product.
Continuous Spray Bottles – my favorite bottle to use is this one, a continuous spray bottle. But, a simple glass spray bottle like this one works as well and I like to keep them on hand for these recipes as well DIY Sun Spray Recipes or All Purpose Garden Spray).
Diffuser – You can also cleanse the air with a diffuser. Get a quality diffuser at wholesale prices here.
