After Sun Itch Salve

image
Have you been in the sun too long?  Have itchy, irritated skin?  Try this after sun itch salve.  My husband got his back burned and was having a hard time sleeping once it got to the dry skin stage. It was itching horribly. So, we tried an oatmeal bath then a baking soda bath and different lotions with essential oils. Finally, I thought about a salve. I knew honey would be the best way to go but I wanted a thin consistency so I didn’t have to rub too hard.  Honey has anti-inflammatory properties, which address the redness and itching.
Here’s what I came up with based on past success. It worked well and he slept thru the night 🙂
1 cup organic coconut oil
1/4 c beeswax
1/4 c organic cocoa butter
1/4 c organic honey
1 tsp vitamin E oil
5 drops lavender essential oil (Get oils at wholesale prices)
5 drops juniper berry essential oil

Melt coconut oil, beeswax and cocoa butter in double broiler or simply put ingredients in a mason jar and sit in a pan of water.
Once melted, add remaining ingredients before it cools completely. Pour into pint jar. Use after sun itch salve just like lotion.
