Essential oils are all the rave lately. So many companies are jumping on the bandwagon. It saddens me that many are selling fake versions of essential oils to make a quick buck. Instead of caring more about the people buying their products, they just want to sell.
I love essential oils just as much as anyone but I care more about my families health than the price of an oil bottle. I want to make sure what I’m using on my homestead is a safe, natural and pure plant. I want to know the ingredients in the bottle without a doubt and be able to trust the source. I’m not like that with just essential oils. I want to be able to trust the source of any product I bring in my home or any food we consume. Thus the reason we grown or raise alot of our own. I’m not perfect in this, but this is my goal. Do I sometimes let my kids eat a food I don’t approve of, yes. Do I let them eat something at a guests house or at church that we don’t have at our home, yes. Like the scripture says, I don’t want to offend a brother.
Ok, let’s get back on the subject. Do you think essential oils are something new? No, they aren’t. They are being revived thru scientific studies and the fact that people are tired of putting synthetic ingredients in their body that brings more harm than good.
The mention of essential oils dates back thousands of years in ancient literature. Rome is known for its baths, territories of Greece for their perfumes, and anointing oils mentioned in the Bible are just a few examples.
The production and use of essential oils has been going on for thousands of years. Most oils were made with the use of olive oil and pressing the oil out of the plant. There are indications in ancient writings about a crude method of distillation. The idea of capturing the fragrant component of a plant is not a new idea. However, it wasn’t until recent times could man view them microscopically and understand them scientifically as we can now. These studies are growing daily.
Essential oils of the Bible and are referenced in 36 out of 39 books of the Old Testament and 10 of the 27 books of the New Testament. They are mentioned more than 500x in the Bible!
Theologically, many times, the oil mentioned in the New Testament symbolizes the Holy Spirit. But there are also references about using oils for their health. Essential Oils are not a replacement for what God can do in our life but a tool He gives us for wellness.

Frankincense comes from a generational tree that takes forty years to produce its first resin. Learn more about this resin and why it may have been given to the baby Jesus in my course.
Myrrh is steam distilled from gum/resin and grown in Somalia. Myrrh has one of the highest levels of sesquiterpenes. Myrrh is also known as Smurna in Hebrew. The first oil mentioned in the bible. Do you know how women in biblical times used Myrrh? Find out in my course.
Spikenard is special. It is one of the most important Biblical oils. Spikenard is consider Nard in the Bible, although some believe that this could have been lavender. “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.” ~ John 12:3
Aloes/Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum and album) is steam distilled from the wood of 40+ year old trees. Sandalwood is referred to as “aloes” in the Bible. (Not to be confused with Aloe Vera, an American plant.)
Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is steam distilled from the branches of the Cypress tree. The oil of Cypress has been used since ancient times for purification and as incense. In the Bible it is known as the Hebrew terms of Gopherwood and Oil Tree.
Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) is steam distilled from bark and was an ingredient in the Holy Anointing Oil given to Moses. This exotic fragrance of vanilla/cinnamon might be similar in its aroma to cinnamon, but it is physically and chemically much different.
Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile or Anthemis nobilis) is steam distilled from flowers. In the Bible, it is referred to as the “flower of the field” in Isaiah 40:6
