Essential Oils During Pregnancy | Essential Homestead

What is the correct way to use essential oils during pregnancy?

Which are safe and how should they be applied? The first three months, even the first three weeks, are a precious time of rapid development for your baby. It’s important to take extra caution during this time in regards to what you eat and put on your body. Even the essential oils during pregnancy should be used with caution.

For example, instead of applying an oil directly to your body, you should dilute it first in a carrier oil, like coconut oil. You can then apply it to the problem area or you can also apply oils to the bottoms of your feet, which is a common way to use essential oils on children.
A good rule of thumb is to dilute 1-2 drops of essential oil with 1/2-1 tsp. of carrier oil. For newborns and infants, dilute 1-2 drops in 2 Tbs. of carrier oil. If the oils are used in a bath, always use a bath gel base as a dispersing agent for the oils. Common carrier oils include fractionated coconut oil, olive oil, vegetable oil, or almond oil.
It is also safe to diffuse the right oils during pregnancy to promote a sense of peace and to help reduce stress.

1.Stress Recipe:  diffuse Lavender, ylang ylang, melissa, or myrrh or dilute these oils and run on the back of your neck, temples, shoulders, or reflex points on your feet.
2. Nausea Recipe: in the morning, consider using ginger or peppermint.  Dilute and apply 1-3 drops on ears, down jaw bone, and on reflex points on the feet.  Diffuse into the air, inhale directly from bottle, or apply oil to hands, tissue, or cotton ball, and inhale.
3. Mood Recipe:  if you begin to get hard on yourself and you need to practice self-love there is nothing better than diffusing Elevation Joyful Blend. As the name suggests, Elevation is an invigorating combination of essential oils that blends euphoric scents to elevate your mood, promote feelings of confidence, and increase your energy.
4. ENERGY Recipe:  since pregnancy can be extremely depleting on your body. I recommend my energy blend which consists of 2 drops Roman chamomile, 2 drops geranium, and 2 drops lavender in 2 tsp. carrier oil, and massage into the skin.
