Have you ever tried homemade cranberry sauce with essential oils?
Essential oils will add an extra burst of flavor to your homemade cranberry sauce. I love cooking with essential oils. They are 50 to 70 times more potent than herbs. They give food a burst of flavor like nothing else can.
Like many families, my cranberry sauce came from a can. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered how much better homemade cranberry sauce tastes. Here’s my favorite recipe for homemade cranberry sauce.
- 12 oz fresh cranberries
- Juice from 2 large oranges
- 1 cup maple syrup, honey or sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3-5 drops tangerine essential oil
Directions: Place cranberries, juice, syrup and cinnamon stick in a saucepan over medium heat. Cover with lid and cook for 15 minutes. Stir every 5 minutes to ensure it doesn’t stick.
After 15 minutes the cranberries should be popped. Remove from heat. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Once cooled stir in tangerine essential oil. Serve chilled. Cranberry sauce can be made 2-3 days ahead.
