Homestead Traditional Chili Recipe
It’s that time of year again. Time for nourishing soups to keep the body well. This is a traditional chili recipe on our homestead. Hope you enjoy it too.
Ingredients:

- 1 lb Hamburger
- 1 Chopped onion or 1/2 c Dehydrated onions
- 2 Garlic cloves
- 16oz Red kidney beans
- 2 qt Crushed tomatoes or 2 c Dehydrated tomatoes
- 4 oz Tomato paste
- 1 tsp Oregano or 1 drop Oregano essential oil
- 1 tsp Ground Cumin
- 5 tbsp Chili powder
- Up to 4 qt Water
Directions: Quick soak the red kidney beans. While soaking: brown hamburger then saute onion and garlic. Combine all ingredients and top with water, approx 2 qt. I use an 8 qt sauce pan. Cook on medium heat until chili cooks down half way. Add more chili powder to taste and top with remaining 2 qt water. Cook thru again. Cooking time: 6-8 hrs.
Warning: not all essential oils can be ingested. Always follow the label instructions.
