How to Fix an Airtag Not Showing in the Find My App

How to Fix an Airtag Not Showing in the Find My App

Airtags are one of the more recent products that Apple has brought to the table. These tiny little devices can tag onto items you don’t want to lose, such as a bag or your house keys. The Airrtag can then track these items in the situation that you do lose them and helps you get back to them faster than ever. However, what uses is that when your Airtag won’t even show up in your Find My App?

If the Airtag doesn’t show up in the Find My App on your iPhone, try the following fixes:

  • Restart the devices, including the Airtag itself.
  • Make sure the Airtag’s battery is still functional and working.
  • Reset the Airtag.
  • Add the Airtag into your phone again.

Obviously, this can be a pretty stressful situation if your Airtag is on a precious item, and you can’t seem to locate it. However, you will see this issue when your Airtag is nearby in most cases. Therefore these simple fixes can help you quickly address the problem before it gets serious. Read through our article to learn more about how each fix works.

How Do I Use The Find My App?

One of the most common ways Airtag users will manage the Find My App is through their Apple device. This includes the iPhone, the iPad, and the Mac. However, that isn’t the only way to use this software. You can also use the Find My App online using the iCloud website.

This is incredibly helpful if you don’t have your Apple device on hand and need to locate something fast. However, there is one caveat – the website does not yet support Airtags, so you won’t be able to locate the devices using the website.

What Happens If My Airtag Isn’t On The App?

You might be wondering why the Find My App is even necessary. However, the matter is that you need this App to be able to use your Airtags at all. The Find My App helps you locate the items connected to your Apple account. If your Airtag isn’t showing up, you can no longer have access to any of its functions.

For example, you can’t see the Airtag’s location, make it play out a sound or ringtone, or, most importantly, switch on Lost mode. These are the main functions of the Airtag, so getting the Find My App to cooperate is paramount.

So, now you know what the Airtag needs the Find My App for. However, you are still in this predicament. How exactly are you supposed to solve this? Luckily, we’ve found some of the fixes available so you can get your Airtags working back to normal in no time.

Restart Your Devices

The very first thing you should try and do is to restart your device. Restarting helps you override simple errors and glitches and may restore your Find My App to how it was before. This includes whatever Apple device you are using, such as an iPad or Mac device. You should also check and ensure that the primary device has the latest version of the respective operating system.

Check On Other Devices

Sometimes, your Airtag may not show up in the Find My App because of an issue with the device itself, not the Airtag. There is a simple way to test this out. All you need to do is connect the Airtag to another device.

If the Airtag still doesn’t show up on the other device’s Find My App, the core issue is likely with the Airtag. However, if the Airtag works just fine on the other device, there is a chance you are dealing with a problem on your device.

Reset Location And Network

Now, what would you do if you knew the problem at hand was on your device? The way to resolve this issue is to reset the Location & Privacy settings or the Network settings. Here’s how:

  1. On your Apple device, go to the Settings App.
  2. From here, navigate to General, and then select Reset.
  3. Select Location & Privacy.
  4. You can also reset Network Settings by selecting ‘Reset Network Settings.’

Investigate Airtag Battery Levels

If you can still see your Airtag on the Find My App, it is time to check the Airtag’s battery. As you may know, Airtag batteries are replaceable but not rechargeable. When an Airtag’s battery dies, you will no longer see the device in your Find My App. So, you can try removing the battery and then putting it back in. If the Airtag does not go back to normal, you should replace the battery with a new one.

Reset The Airtag

Now, you have tried to address other causes of this glitch. However, if nothing else is working, you need to reset your Airtag manually. Here are the steps to follow to make that happen:

  1. Turn over your Airtag, and press down on the battery cover.
  2. As you apply pressure, also rotate the cover counter-clockwise.
  3. The battery cover will come out.
  4. Now, you can remove the battery from the inside.
  5. Wait for a few seconds, and then put the battery back inside.
  6. Press down until you hear a beeping sound.
  7. Repeat this process another four times, always making sure to look out for the sound.
  8. After the last time, place the cover back on top of the battery.
  9. Rotate the cover clockwise to complete resetting.

Your Airtag is now reset, and you can add it to your phone as a new device.
