Below you will find 10 Awesome Nerf gun cakes sure to blow everyone at your party away (numbers 9 and 10 are gluten free!). So what are we waiting for? Let’s get baking!

1. Nerf Strongarm Cake

The first step you take in planning the cake for your party is which Nerf gun you are going to be modeling it after. If you have any Nerf guns laying around the house already, choose one of those for your inspiration.

For this cake tutorial, you will see the Nerf Strongarm be the inspiration for the cake’s shape. This gun is approximately 12 inches by 8 inches by 3 inches. Be sure to choose a cake pan with at least an inch of extra space o pour your batter in. I suggest for the Nerf Strongarm using a 9 inch by 13 inch baking pan.

Now start gathering your ingredients! You will need:

  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2/3 Cup canola oil
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour (you will need 2 additional Tablespoons later on)
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Cup milk, and
  • 6 egg whites

Once you have all your ingredients gathered and measured, start warming your oven to 350 degrees. Line your cake pan with parchment paper adding some oil and flour to the sides (this will help the cake to maintain its shape even after being removed from the pan).

Mix together the softened butter, sugar, and oil. After the ingedients are fully mixed, add in the vanilla.

In another bowl start mixing your dry ingredients. This will be the flour, baking powder, and the salt.

Now its time to mix the two bowls together! Be sure to use an electric mixer for this next step (it will allow you to combine the two mixtures without any clumps forming).

Start by mixing the dry mix into the wet mix. After adding some flour start adding in some milk. Switch between the two until both are fully mixed in.

The final step is to beat your egg whites until they are white and fluffy with stiff peaks. Add those to the batter mixture and mix together with a rubber spatula!

Add your mix to the pan and bake for at least 35 minutes! Once your cake is done, allow it to cool for another 15 minutes before attempting to remove from the pan.

Now that your batter is prepared, separate it evenly between two bowls. Add orange food coloring to one and blue to another.

If you do not have an ice cream cone cupcake holder you will need to use tinfoil in a cupcake pan to keep the cones upward. When filling the cones alternate between the orange batter and the blue batter until the cone is 2/3 full. Once each cone is filled, take a toothpick and gently swirl the colors (do not mix them).

Bake the cones for about 20 minutes and allow hem to cool completely.

While the cupcakes are baking prepare your frosting. In one container of your frosting add orange food coloring and in the other blue. Try to get the shades to match the cupcakes and much as possible.

Fill one piping bag with orange and the other with blue (you can use a ziploc bag as a piping bag) and then place both in a larger one. This will allow you to get the perfect swirl effect for your frosting.

Top the cupcakes!
