After visiting several Great Wolf Lodge locations, we can confidently say Williamsburg’s property stands out as one of the best places for families to unplug, reconnect, and enjoy some serious adventure—rain or shine.
If your crew is anything like ours, you know that finding a place that appeals to every age (from our adventurous 10-year-old all the way down to our mischievous five-year-old twins!) is like finding a needle in a haystack. That’s why today, I’m sharing our favorite activities at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, VA—plus insider tips to help make your trip as smooth and magical as possible.

Our Top Activities At Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg
After multiple visits, here’s what each member of our Double Decker Fam agreed were the absolute do-not-miss activities. I’ll share our honest experiences, a few tips, and practical info for each:
1. Splashtastic Fun At The Indoor Waterpark
Let’s start with the obvious: the water park is the heart of every Great Wolf Lodge. Williamsburg’s is massive—84-degrees year-round, heated pools, slides, a wave pool, and even a water fort treehouse.
Big Family Pro Tips:
- Cabana Rentals: Worth every penny, especially with a large crew. Having a home-base gives tired kids a spot to rest and parents a place to keep all the swim gear in one spot.
- Height Restrictions: Some of the larger slides have minimum height requirements—our 7 and 8-year-olds loved Howlin’ Tornado and River Canyon Run, but the twins stuck with Fort Mackenzie and the Cub Paw Pool.
- Toweling Off Breaks: It’s easy to get chilled—grab plenty of dry towels, and don’t forget to pack a few snacks or purchase some from Buckets Incredible Craveables nearby.
Our Family Faves:
- Howlin’ Tornado: Heart-stopping slide for thrill seekers in our crew (and Tad nearly chickened out at the top!). Expect to get soaked.
- Crooked Creek: Their lazy river is a favorite for the whole family—great for floating with younger ones.
- Slap Tail Pond: This wave pool never loses its appeal, and it’s always a highlight for our older kiddos showing off their swimming skills.

2. MagiQuest—A Real-Life Fantasy Adventure
MagiQuest may honestly be the most memorable part of every trip. Basically, your child becomes a magical adventurer, wand in hand, exploring the resort to unlock crystals, defeat dragons, and solve riddles.
Why Our Kids Love It
- Interactive: The game gets everyone out of the room, up and down the stairs, searching for clues. It appeals to all ages—even I get wrapped up in the action helping the twins and the big kids navigate the quests.
- Flexible: Start and finish at your own pace. With several levels of gameplay (and a single wand that can be reused on future visits), it’s an investment for repeated trips.
- Sibling bonding: Watching our older kids help the little ones “cast spells” never gets old.
Insider Tips:
- Sturdy shoes are a must—lots of running between floors.
- Complete a couple levels a day instead of all at once to avoid burnout.
- Wands make a great souvenir (they’re well-crafted and light up kids’ rooms long after the trip).

3. Character Appearances & The Clock Tower Show
There’s true magic in seeing our littles run up to Wiley the Wolf for a photo op or gather around the Great Clock Tower for the daily show. Storytimes in the lobby at bedtime are also a special touch.
DBLDKR Parent Tips:
- Line up for character meet-and-greets a little before posted times for the best photo ops.
- Bedtime story in pajamas is a tradition—even our older kids join in the cozy community vibe.
- The Clock Tower Show is both interactive and calming—ideal wind-down before heading to your suite for the night.
These family-style moments of wonder and togetherness are what makes Great Wolf stand out from your average waterpark hotel. It’s the little things that our kids remember!
4. Onsite Arcade—Northern Lights Arcade
Our crew loves the Northern Lights Arcade, open 24/7 and totally packed with games for all ages—from old school skee ball to the latest video games.
Why It Works For Us:
- Volunteer time for older kids—while the twins are winding down with a coloring page, we’ll let our older kids burn off energy in the arcade, especially during that after-dinner stretch when everyone’s a little restless.
- Prizes. Okay, the kids go nuts cashing in their game points for little treasures to take home. It’s a Great Wolf tradition, and a pretty good incentive for practicing teamwork!
DBLDKR Arcade Tip:
Buy a bulk play card for better value, and set a time or budget limit so you don’t get sidetracked from family time.
5. Creative Craft Time & Interactive Experiences
Rainy or chilly afternoon? Head to the lodge’s family activity center (often located near the lobby or restaurant). There are always crafts, painting, themed games, or dance parties—these are a lifesaver on a “recover from all the fun” day.
- Storytime: Not just for little ones—Dani and I always leave feeling like we’ve hit the family reset button.
- Dance Parties: Our twins’ favorite—staff are full of energy and encourage even the shyest to jump in.
- Seasonal Themed Fun: From Spooktacular fall crafts to Springfest scavenger hunts, the staff offers up creative hands-on experiences every season.
Tip: Look for the daily activities schedule posted in the lobby or your room—this is key for planning out what to catch (and what to skip) each day.
What About Dining?
Feeding our crew of eight on the road isn’t easy, but Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg does make it manageable. Our go-tos:
- The Loose Moose Family Kitchen: Buffet style, tons of selection, easy to get food for picky eaters and for bigger appetites like mine!
- Pizza and More: You can order pizza directly to the room, which is a huge win for pool days when the kids just don’t wanna sit at a table.
- Buckets Incredible Craveables: Conveniently located in the waterpark, perfect for quick snacks.
For families with allergies, the lodge is very accomodating—just be sure to let staff know in advance.

What’s New or Special in Williamsburg?
Each Great Wolf Lodge has its own charm, but Williamsburg’s location offers some unique features:
- Storybook-Themed Rooms: Upgrade to a themed suite for an extra wow-factor. Our pack loved the Wolf Den Suite—with bunks, murals, and interactive elements.
- Shuttle to Colonial Williamsburg: Great if you want to add some historic exploration. Our kids enjoyed a day trip before coming back for evening fun at the lodge.
- Seasonal Festivities: Check the calendar—on our last winter trip, there was a snow machine and indoor “snowball” fights which made for the best family memories.
