Our Favorite Activities At Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg VA
By Dane (DoubleDeckerFam)

When you have a family as big as ours – eight of us, including my wife and our six kids – finding the perfect adventure can be a challenge. We’re all about unique and memorable experiences (hello, Double Decker RV!), and on our recent roadtrip through Virginia, we decided to swing by Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg VA for a few days of family fun. If you’ve been following along on our Instagram or YouTube channel, you know a visit here is everything the kids could dream up and more.

But with so much to do at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg – water park rides, story times, adventure quests, and more – it can be overwhelming deciding what’s worth your time and energy. Here’s a look at the activities our family loved most, and tips to help make your stay as magical (and manageable) as possible!

1. The Indoor Water Park: The Star of the Show

Let’s be real: if you’re going to Great Wolf Lodge, the water park is probably the main attraction. The beauty of the Williamsburg location is that it’s all indoors, meaning, weather can’t rain on your parade.

Our Family’s Favorite Rides & Attractions

  • Fort Mackenzie – This multi-level water playground fit all ages in our crew. Our twins loved the gentle jets and mini slides, while our 10-year-old went straight for the big tipping bucket (tip: stand under it at your own risk!).
  • Howlin’ Tornado – If your family likes thrills, this one’s non-stop. Four of us could hop in the raft together and laugh-scream our way through those wild drops.
  • Big Foot Pass – Think of it as a floating obstacle course for little American Ninja Warriors. Our older kids raced each other across those pads, and it was a great spot for the kids to burn off energy while we caught our breath nearby.
  • Cub Paw Pool – Special shoutout to the zero-depth play area for the littlest timberwolves – cozy, safe, and with lots of gentle splashing. Perfect for our twins!
  • Lazy River “Crooked Creek” – When mom and dad need a break (we always do!), everybody can float together and just chill for a few laps.

Helpful Water Park Tips

  • Renting a cabana is totally worth it for big families! Having a home base for snacks, dry towels, and tired kids is a game-changer.
  • Arrive as early as possible – even before check-in, you can get wristbands and enjoy the park!
  • Don’t forget the waterproof phone case for all those epic action shots.

For more about safety and health guidelines in waterparks, we always recommend checking resources like CDC Healthy Swimming before your visit.

2. MagiQuest: Interactive Adventure for All Ages

If your kids like magic, quests, and exploring, MagiQuest is the can’t-miss activity at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg. Picture Harry Potter meets scavenger hunt meets real-life video game – the kids get a magic wand and set off on quests throughout the lodge.

  • Why our family loves it: The game is totally self-paced, so even our youngest could wave their wands at treasure chests and “cast spells.” The big kids were all in on solving clues, running from hall to hall, teaming up and strategizing together.
  • Parent hack: If you’re hitting the lodge for more than one night, spread out MagiQuest over multiple days. The wands and quests remember your progress!
  • Budget tip: The basic wands work just as well as the fancy ones, and you can bring them back for future visits, so hold onto them.

Bonus: MagiQuest is a sneaky way to keep kids active after hours of swimming – they’ll rack up steps as they race around!

3. Family-Friendly Activities & Clubs

Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg isn’t just about the splash – there’s a packed daily schedule of family events right in the heart of the resort.

Our Top Three:

a. Story Time in the Grand Lobby

Every afternoon and evening, kids gather in the lobby, snuggle up in pajamas, and listen to a Great Wolf character read stories. Even our big kids get into the singalongs! If your children are shy, seeing all the others in wolf ears and jammies helps them join in the fun.

b. Dance Parties & Character Meet-and-Greets

The nightly dance parties let everyone (yes, even parents) burn off their extra dessert calories. Plus, you’ll get unforgettable photos with Wiley, Violet, and the rest of the pack. No extra ticket required!

c. Build-A-Bear Workshop

Our twins were obsessed with the on-site shop where they could create and dress their own wolf stuffies. Yes, you might need to set a budget beforehand to avoid “I want it all!” meltdowns, but this was a sweet souvenir they’re still sleeping with at night.

4. Adventure Park Zone (For the Energetic!)

When our kids needed a break from the pool but not from the action, the adventure park was a hit:

  • Howlers Peak Ropes Course: Our oldest three conquered high ropes and obstacles, while we cheered them on from below. It’s harnessed, safe, and confidence-building!
  • Northern Lights Arcade: Perfect for a little retro gaming (hello, mom and dad’s youth!) and ticket-stacking fun.
  • Mini Glow Golf: Family competition with blacklight! Our crew split into teams, so nobody waited too long for their turn.

5. Food & Dining: What Worked (And What We’d Skip)

Let’s talk food, because with six kids, meals can make or break a vacation. The good news? Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg has a ton of family-friendly options:

Favorites:

  • Lodge Wood Fired Grill: Great for a sit-down meal without leaving the property. The menu has everything from kids’ mac n’ cheese to steak, and the waitstaff were patient and understanding of big families like ours.
  • Buckets Incredible Craveables: This is poolside food done right – burgers, fries, salads, and even treats for kids with allergies (yay for labeled ingredients!).
  • Hungry As A Wolf Pizza: You’ll want this takeout spot on your speed dial for late-night snack attacks or in-room movie nights. And yes, a large pie will disappear in about five minutes with our crew.

What We’d Skip:

  • The bakery treats looked fun, but honestly, there’s so much sugar everywhere else, we didn’t feel we missed out. Instead, we saved room for the fudge shop at Colonial Williamsburg. #Priorities

6. Tips for Big Families (Like Ours!)

We’ve learned through trial and error what works best for a “large family wolf pack” at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg:

  • Book a themed suite – The KidCabin and Wolf Den suites have bunk beds and separate sleeping zones for kids, giving parents (kind of) a break.
  • Watch for package deals – Great Wolf often bundles room, water park passes, dining credits, and activity passes, which can equal big savings.
  • Set a souvenir budget – Between the arcade, MagiQuest, and Build-A-Bear, little purchases can add up quick. We give each kid a daily or trip-long limit, so everyone gets to make fun, independent choices without breaking the bank.

7. More Area Attractions: Make It A Longer Trip!

If you have extra time in Williamsburg, consider pairing your Great Wolf Lodge stay with a visit to Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. Both are just a short drive away, and there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants and parks in the area.

Final Thoughts: Why We’ll Be Back

Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg is the kind of place where it’s impossible for kids to be bored – and honestly, parents will have just as much fun When you’re traveling in an RV or counting on a weather-proof destination that can keep all ages entertained, it’s hard to beat. We left with tired kids, full camera rolls, and lots of great family memories.

Whether your crew is as large (and wild) as the DoubleDeckerFam or you’re planning your first big trip, Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg is well worth the howl.
