Our Favorite Activities At Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg VA

Hey there, adventure seekers! Dane here from DoubleDeckerFam. If you follow us on YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, you know our family of 8 loves hitting new places in our unique converted Double Decker RV (yep, we get so many questions whenever we pull into a new campground). With six kids—ages 10 through our 5-year-old twins—we’re always searching for family-friendly destinations that keep everyone entertained, well-fed, and, let’s be honest, exhausted by bedtime. Our recent stop at Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA checked all those boxes and more!

In this post, I’m sharing our absolute favorite activities at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg VA. Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning for another howl-worthy adventure, grab your wolf ears and dive into these must-try experiences. Plus, I’ll include some pro tips from the Eyerly crew to help your family make the most out of your trip!

Why Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg Is Perfect For Big Families

Before diving into the activities, a quick note about why this specific location is a winner for large families like ours:

  • All-in-one Resort: Everything you need from lodging, dining, swimming, and even spa time is under one roof. No driving around Williamsburg (unless you want to explore Colonial Williamsburg, of course).
  • Spacious Suites: Their suites fit families up to 8. Some even have themed kids’ rooms, bunk beds, and a bit of privacy for mom and dad!
  • Year-Round Fun: Did I mention the massive indoor water park is open rain or shine? Critical for those unpredictable East Coast spring and fall trips.

Now, let’s dive into our favorite things to do!

1. Splashing It Up at the Indoor Water Park

Nonstop Water Adventure For All Ages

Hands down, the water park is the main event at Great Wolf Lodge. Our kids could have stayed here from opening til bedtime (and basically did). The highlights:

  • Fort Mackenzie: This multi-level interactive water fortress is a kid magnet. Our oldest loved the rope bridges, spray cannons, and—of course—the giant tipping bucket that drenches everyone below. The twins stuck to the gentler fountains on the lower level.
  • Howlin’ Tornado: If you have bold adventurers (or competitive siblings), this signature raft slide is a can’t-miss. With most of the family able to ride together, it was a blast for us to pile in as a group.
  • Alberta Falls: These tube slides got multiple rounds from our 10, 8, and 7-year-old, sometimes with a parent in tow! Fast, twisty, and groan-inducing fun.
  • Cub Paw Pool: For parents with preschoolers, this shallow, warm pool has pint-sized slides perfect for independent water play.
  • Slap Tail Pond: Classic wave pool action. Pro tip: hit the waves right when they start for the BEST bounces.

Water park access is included for all guests, so the value is really fantastic. Lifeguards were everywhere, and we felt super safe letting the older kids explore while we hung back with the littler ones.

If you’re concerned about bringing your own swim gear and towels, don’t be—towels are provided on-site, and there are tons of quiet seating nooks for parents who want a break (or to sip a desperately needed coffee from Dunkin’ right next to the water park entrance).

2. MagiQuest: A Magical Adventure Across The Lodge

MagiQuest has got to be one of the cleverest ways to keep kids active beyond the water park—and a perfect answer to that awful phrase: “I’m bored.”

  • What It Is: An interactive scavenger hunt game where kids (and parents—admit it, it’s fun for us, too!) use magic wands to complete quests throughout the hotel. Think live-action roleplay meets a video game.
  • Why We Loved It: Our 7 and 10-year-olds raced up and down hallways, solving riddles, unlocking treasure chests, and defeating virtual dragons. The twins loved waving the wand at glowing fixtures, even if they didn’t totally get the point system.
  • Pro Tip: Take a few breaks and spread out your quests across your stay—trust me, it wears everyone out in the best way possible.

While MagiQuest does require the purchase of a wand and game, you can keep and reuse these for future visits or at other MagiQuest locations.

3. Exploring the Many Dry Activities

While the water park dominates the headlines, Great Wolf really shines in offering loads of fun that doesn’t require a swimsuit. Here’s what we tried and what we plan to hit next time:

  • Ten Paw Alley: This mini bowling alley got big laughs, especially since all the balls are a manageable size for little hands. Scoring is automatic—thank goodness!
  • Northern Lights Arcade: Perfect for rainy mornings or after an early dinner. Our older kids played classic video games (hello, Skee-Ball), while the littles were OBSESSED with whack-a-mole.
  • Build-A-Bear Workshop: The twins’ favorite souvenir—each got to make their very own stuffed wolf, which is still riding front-and-center in our RV.
  • Howl in One Mini Golf: We didn’t get to this one (there’s so much to do!), but we saw families outside giggling and high-fiving over holes-in-one.

And if you need a quieter moment, story time and dance parties happen daily in the main lobby! Highly recommend the evening story time when staff in costume read a bedtime tale. Bring PJs!

4. Eating Well—Even With Picky Kids (and Grownups)

Let’s be real: finding food that satisfies everyone in a big family can be a challenge—especially after a day of swimming. Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg has something for every eater in your pack:

  • Timbers Table & Kitchen: Our go-to for sit-down meals that don’t break the bank. The kids’ menu has all the faves (pizza, grilled cheese, chicken fingers), and we found hearty salads and entrees for adults.
  • The Loose Moose Bar & Grill: Buffet-style breakfast is key for fueling up before a busy day. The twins put away more waffles and fruit than I thought possible.
  • Hungry as a Wolf: Pizza and pasta to-go. Perfect for eating in your suite after an exhausting pool session.
  • Dunkin’: For essential morning (and afternoon) coffee. Enough said.
  • Bear Paw Sweet Eats: Save room for dessert—think giant cookies and ice cream.

You can even bring your own food and snacks to stash in your room’s mini fridge, something we always appreciate when traveling with kids who get the munchies at odd hours.

For families with allergies, the staff was super knowledgable and helpful—so don’t hesitate to ask if you need ingredient info or special prep.

5. Special Extras That Make Family Vacations Memorable

Every DoubleDeckerFam destination needs a little “wow!”—the things the kids will remember years later. At Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, we loved:

  • Wolf Ears & Character Meet-and-Greets: Complimentary wolf ears at check-in and scheduled photo ops with mascots like Wiley the Wolf and Violet turned standard family photos into new favorites.
  • Spa Time at Scooops Kid Spa: Our 8-year-old daughters felt so grown up getting mini-mani/pedis (and parents can book at the adult spa, too).
  • Themed Suites: The bunk beds, Northwoods decor, and “kids’ cabin” bedrooms meant bedtime was part of the adventure.
  • Seasonal Events: Check the Great Wolf Williamsburg events calendar for holiday-specific fun, like a summer splash bash, snowland at Christmas, or a springtime bunny hop.

Plus, you’re just minutes from Colonial Williamsburg, so you can mix indoor waterpark fun with outdoor history and culture—a win for both parents and teachers (especially if you homeschool on the road like we do sometimes!).

What To Pack (& Some Tips from the DoubleDeckerFam)

After many trial-and-error trips with our energetic crew, here’s what’s actually worth bringing:

  • Swimsuits (pack 2 per kid, at least)
  • Flip flops or slip-ons for the water park
  • Refillable water bottles (there are refill stations—skip disposable bottles!)
  • PJs and slippers for lobby story time
  • Snacks, especially for picky eaters
  • E-book or paperback for grown-up downtime
  • Small laundry bag for wet suits
  • A couple pullovers or sweatshirts—the air conditioning is strong in summer!

Pro Tip: Check-in for the water park starts as early as 1pm—even if your room isn’t ready—so bring a day bag with swim gear handy.
