Teaching Textbooks 3.0 Review | Essential Homestead

As a homeschool family, we have tried numerous math curriculums until we found Teaching Textbooks.

This will be the 6th year my oldest child has used Teaching Textbooks.  Math is her least favorite subject and I struggled for years trying to teach her from a math workbook.  She really hated the repetition and writing the same things over and over.

When she started Teaching Textbooks a weight was lifted from me and she began enjoying math. She gained confidence, started working independently and improved her math skills.  She’s a visual learner so enjoys seeing and hearing the lectures.  She can play them over and over until she understands. Of course, I’m here to help her when she gets stuck but sometimes she needs to listen more than once to grasp the concept.  She also likes the 2nd chance feature. Having 2 chances to get a problem correct lessens the stress for her.
They have improved Teaching Textbooks even more. They are now offering an online version called 3.0.  My daughter and I have gone thru the features and completed some of the lessons.

Here’s the benefits we’ve seen.

Remote Access – I don’t have to log into the same pc my child is using to be able to see their grades, change a lesson or delete a lesson.  I can now login on the website and see what she’s doing in real time.

No more discs – Cd’s get scratched, misplaced or broken.  Newer pc’s aren’t coming with CD drives anymore.  No more doing lessons on the same pc.  We can login on any pc and access the lessons.
Textbook is online – No more huge book to lug around.  We travel quite a bit and love to be able to access this on the go.

Lower price The 3.0 online version is a lower cost than 2.0.  Don’t worry, you can still purchase the physical book and CD’s if you prefer that route.
Permanent grade storage – If you turn in a portfolio like I do, this is very important to you.  Even if your pc goes down, you’ll have these grades stored online.  Teaching Textbooks will even keep these grades stored for you if you cancel your subscription.
New buddies and wallpapers – 3.0 has added new buddies to choose from.  Students can also change their wallpaper.  My daughter said the settings button makes it more fun to do math.

Turn off hints and 2nd chances – Parents now have the ability to turn off hints and 2nd chances. If you have a child that relies heavily on them you can now customize their math experience.

Use on a tablet or mobile device – If you are on the go and don’t have access to a pc, your child can complete their lesson on a mobile device or tablet.  Go here to view instructions.
