How Long Does It Take to Charge a Shark Battery?

Waiting for a vacuum to finish charging is easily one of the most complex parts of cleaning my home. After getting everything ready and being in the right headspace, something like a depleted battery can seriously affect my mood going forward. It’s only natural to want to know the answers – how long does it take for my Shark battery to charge? 

Shark batteries typically charge in a timeframe of 3-5 hours. Still, the time varies based on the type of vacuum and how you use it. In the same vein, the battery will last you for about 9-90 minutes, once again depending on the model.

What Are The Different Types Of Shark Batteries?

There are three primary Shark batteries you see in your vacuum models. Each of these has different capabilities and charging times. So, paying attention to the battery you use is extremely important. The main kinds of Shark batteries are:

  1. Shark ION Power Pack Battery
  2. The Shark ION Power Core Battery
  3. The Shark ION™ W1 Battery

As you have had a battery for a while, it will reduce its ability to charge and release current. Different batteries need different optimum charging times and will allow you to use vacuums in different settings. Also, keep in mind that your performance will go down with time no matter what type of battery there is out there.

Why Does The Series Matter?

The different series of Shark vacuums have various features, modes, accessories, and components. The difference between different series can affect how long your battery will last. Therefore, it’s good to look at your series to factor in what information is most relevant to you.

To get an idea of how long you need to charge your battery, you need to factor in plenty of things. But, when you are looking for information, it’s best to break it down to the series of Shark vacuum models you use. 

IF280 Series

  • Battery Type: ION Power Pack
  • Charging Time: 3.5 hours
  • Draining Time: ION Power (26-40 min), ION Boost (10-12 min)

The IF280 Series includes various upright, cordless vacuums. The vacuums in this series use an ION Power Pack battery. This is a removable battery that has a 25.2 V capacity. You can charge the battery with an ION Power Pack charger, specifically built for it. There is also a charging dock and a mount available for this series. 

The battery can drain out differently depending on your settings. On ION power mode, it can drain between 26-40 minutes, whereas, in ION Boost mode, it can drain out in 10-12 minutes. Typically, the ION Power Pack will take about three and a half hours to charge with these series fully. 

IC160 Series

  • Battery Type: ION Power Core
  • Charging Time: 3.5 hours
  • Draining Time: ION Power (28-50 min), ION Boost (18 min)

Shark’s IC160 series includes the lift-away vacuum series. They have a longer runtime using the ION Power Core battery, which has a capacity of 28.8 V, and you can remove and recharge it. There are indicator lights on this battery to help you assess how much charge is left. This battery type also has its own ION Power Core charger and a charging cradle and dock.

The ION Power Core battery will take around three and a half hours to charge completely. As for its draining time, the ION Power Core battery will drain in about 28-50 minutes when you use ION Power mode. You can use the vacuum for around 18 minutes on the ION boost mode. These statistics make it an excellent option for longer vacuuming sessions. 

IR140 Series

  • Battery Type: ION Power Pack
  • Charging Time: 3.5 hours
  • Draining Time: ION Power (26-40 min), ION Boost (10-12 min)

The IR140 series includes also includes upright vacuums and has a similar charging and draining time to the IF280 series by Shark. 

WV200 Series

  • Battery Type:  Shark ION™ W1
  • Charging Time: 2.5 hours
  • Draining Time: 8-10 minutes

When it comes to the WV200 series, these represent Shark’s handheld vacuums, designed for quick sprints around the house. The system uses a Shark ION™ W1 battery, which can be charged only using the dock provided by the company. 

Additionally, the Shark ION™ W1 needs to be charged for around two and a half hours. This gives it enough power to run for around 8-10 minutes, making it an excellent tool for quick cleanups. You can even keep the vacuum on the charging dock if you intend to use it daily. 

LV800 & LV900 

  • Battery Type:  Lithium-ion battery
  • Charging Time: 6 hours
  • Draining Time: Around 13 minutes

The LV800 and LV900 series are another series of handheld vacuums created by Shark. With these vacuums, the primary power source is a Lithium-ion battery, which you cannot replace. If the battery malfunctions, you must discard the vacuum cleaner using appropriate safe means. 

You can recharge the battery as long as it is functioning well. The battery takes around 6 hours to charge up, after which you can use it for around 13 minutes. You can extend the time that the vacuum is in use if you do not use an attachment.

All in all, between these different types of vacuums, there is a lot of variation in charging time and the average period the vacuum can run. This is why it is crucial to understand the specifics of your vacuum model and choose what works best according to your needs. 

For example, if you want a small vacuum for quick cleaning around the house, the WV200 series may be ideal. Knowing the correct charging time also helps you extend the battery’s life and saves you from costly replacements.
